Something more serious

I suppose to really understand me (whether you'd like to or not) you'll need to see the full spectrum of my thoughts.  After a difficult year, and an especially rough past couple of days, I've learned some things--simple truths, if you will--that I've been working on and still need to work on.  These truths benefit us all though, and that's why I'm sharing them.

10 Simple Truths I've Found:

1. Everyone has bad days--there's no getting around it.

2. Everyone else is so worried about their own embarrassing moments that they don't remember yours.

3. Self pity isn't humility; it's another form of pride.

4. You need to learn to take a compliment.

5. You need to learn to take criticism.

6. Sometimes when people tell you what's wrong, they don't want your advice.  All they want is to know you're there and you're willing to do what they ask of you.

7. It's not a negative thing to cry if it means getting out what you've been holding back.

8. There are people around you who will care if you just help them see the problem.

9. Change is okay.  It's natural and necessary and you can do it.

10. Above all, be genuine.  Be genuine and real when helping others, expressing feelings to others, and recognizing your own strengths and weaknesses.

We're all fighting our own battles here; some of us are winning and some of us are losing.  You can't judge the people who are losing their battle because it's not the one you've been trained to fight.  And sometimes you can't take the bullets for them, either.  You have to let them figure things out and grow as strong as they can grow before the war ends.
